20 / Atul Ltd | Annual Report 2009-10 Serving the Society The dream of the founder in establishing Atul was to create wealth in rural India, generate employment and make India self reliant. In essence, the idea was actually to serve the society through business. Ever since its first plants were commissioned, Atul has engaged itself in serving the society particularly in and around Valsad in the areas of education, health and culture and invariably worked for the poor during floods, famines and earthquakes. Shiva and Jain temples in Atul , Kalyani School, Atul Vidyalaya, Atul medical centre, 48 acres land to Vallabh Ashram for building two of the finest boarding schools, are some of the contributions of Atul in the past. During the year, Atul took over the management of a boarding school for tribal students, now called Atul Vidyamandir. The school houses 202 students, and the objective of the school is to integrate students from backward regions with the rest of the society. In addition, Atul through Atul Rural Development Foundation undertook several initiatives during the year, and the Management has now commenced the review of these initiatives once every month. 21
