Lalbhai Group is one of the oldest business houses of India.
The first textile mill of the Group was established by Lalbhai Dalpatbhai in 1896.

Founding Fathers

The known lineage of the Lalbhai family goes back 18 generations. Originally from Osia (Rajasthan),
the family shifted to Ahmedabad (Gujarat) in the 17th century, about 400 years ago.

Kasturbhai Lalbhai

An institution builder par excellence, Kasturbhai Lalbhai made seminal contributions particularly in the fields of industry, education, culture and religion. His pioneering efforts helped in the process of transformation of a colonised and impoverished India to a land of emerging hopes and opportunities. He led a purposeful life imbibed with integrity, discipline, excellence, perseverance and simplicity.

On March 17, 2012, Atul Ltd converted its first office into an Inspiring Center to depict the life and times of its Founder, Kasturbhai Lalbhai. The Center was inaugurated by Shrenik Kasturbhai, the younger son of Kasturbhai.

Balwantrai Mazumdar

(September 22, 1902 – May 20, 1981)

An economist by education, Balwantrai Mazumdar was a trusted confidant of Kasturbhai Lalbhai. A voracious reader, he was a sound thinker, patient listener and a farsighted professional.

He was instrumental in transforming Atul from a barren land into one of the greenest chemical complexes of its kind in the world. He remained with the Group till the end of his life as did most of the people who worked with Kasturbhai.

Siddharth Lalbhai

(May 3, 1923 – September 13, 1998)

A chemical engineer by education, Siddharth Lalbhai was the elder son of Kasturbhai. He shifted to Atul right from its inception and played an important role in making Atul one of the finest chemical conglomerates, according equal importance to creation of wealth and service to the society.

A man of few words, he firmly believed in trusteeship in governance, a low profile, simplicity and single minded devotion to tasks on hand. He succeeded Kasturbhai as the second Chairperson of Atul.
