Established in 1947, the first site of Atul is spread across 1,300 acres and is amongst the greenest chemical complexes of its kind in the world. A vast array of chemical processes and operations are handled to manufacture a comprehensive range of bulk chemicals, dyes and pigments, crop protection chemicals, epoxy resins, curing agents, pharmaceutical intermediates and related products. The site is equipped with dedicated power plants, water storage facilities and world class effluent treatment plants.
About 2,200 people work at this site.
The site is unique in the sense that it is a township in itself and provides a range of amenities to residents to promote holistic living and well-being.
Urmi, Utkarsh and Ulhas are organisations established to focus on community building in Atul. Urmi (‘joy from within’) works with the objective of women empowerment, produces fresh and pure Indian spices in an endeavour to provide employment to women from surrounding areas. Utkarsh (desire to accomplish outstanding) organises cultural programs, food festivals and an annual funfair for all those residing in the vicinity. Ulhas (‘joy and enthusiasm’) encourages the local population to engage in sport activities such as cricket, volleyball and marathons. Two schools (Atul Vidyalaya with English as the medium of instruction and Kalyani Shala with Gujarati as the medium of instruction) ensure that students have access to quality education. Atul Club offers several sport facilities such as badminton, billiards, swimming, table tennis and also has a gymnasium for fitness enthusiasts. The guesthouse has well-equipped and comfortable rooms and dining facilities for visiting employees and guests. The open-air theatre with a seating capacity of about 3,000 people is an important center for annual functions, movie screening and cultural programs. Banks, ATMs and a police station are located within the campus and are easily accessible.
With good connectivity to the neighbouring cities of Valsad and Vapi, Atul is about 200 km away from Mumbai (Maharashtra) and about 350 km away from Ahmedabad (Gujarat).
